Take a scenic boat journey through Nitmiluk's first gorge before enjoying a self-guided canoe adventure in the Nitmiluk Gorge in the Katherine region of the Northern Territory. Explore the second gorge at your own pace, discovering the lush hanging gardens and rainforest-like atmosphere.

Location

Nitmiluk Boat ramp. Gorge Road, Nitmiluk National Park. 30km from the township of Katherine, allow 30 minutes driving time.

What to expect

The boat ride through the first gorge introduces you to the Jawoyn culture and natural surrounds. This is a great tour for families looking for a little bit more. Children aged six and over can join this tour in a double canoe with an adult.

Following a small walk on a rocky path to the canoe launch area be prepared for the adventure to really begin. Exploring the gorge system at a relaxed pace, you will have ample time to admire the scenery and wildlife. Enjoy a picnic on the shaded river banks or cool off with a swim in the alluring waters of the second or third gorge.

On this self-guided canoe adventure you will no doubt be drawn into the lush hanging gardens. This is a fertile section of the gorge with a rainforest-like atmosphere. Enjoy the shade and cooling atmosphere from the green foliage.
Adventurers are required to carry their canoes between gorges should they wish to go further than the second gorge.

What is included

This is a four and a half hour experience, departing twice daily at 8:00am and 1:00pm.

Inclusions:

  • Equipment - Canoes, Life Jackets and oars
  • Boat ride through first gorge

Self-guided once you enter canoes.

Family friendly - Children aged six and over can join this tour in a double canoe with an adult.

Children 5 years and under are not permitted to canoe due to safety regulations. Children aged between the ages of 6 – 12 years MUST be accompanied by an adult.

All guests are asked to be at the jetty 30 minutes prior to departure.
