Gain a deep understanding of culture and Country on this reflective half day experience in the ancient landscape of Queensland’s Scenic Rim region, close to 2 hours’ drive west of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Be welcomed with a smoking ceremony, learn about local culture and heritage, reflect on your own connection to Country and enjoy a short nature walk to breathtaking views of Mt Barney.

This is a half day experience running from 8.30am to 12.30pm for group bookings only. Please enquire to arrange a suitable date for your group where our Queensland guide is available.

Mt Barney Lodge, 1093 Upper Logan Road, Mt Barney, Queensland. Mt Barney Lodge is about 2 hours' drive inland from Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

What to expect

Gain a deep connection with Country in the stunning Scenic Rim region of south east Queensland.

Your host, Gurruhmun "Old Man Kangaroo", a Ugarapul and Bidjara man with ancient local heritage, will welcome you to this Country and help you build your connection to nature and self during this special half day tour.
Yarriba means “walking together” and this immersive cultural experience will guide you towards greater Connection with our personal and shared wilderness heritage.

The spectacular backdrop for your time on Country is Mount Barney National Park – World Heritage Listed and a wild, beautiful remnant of the ancient Gondwana Rainforest. It's popular with bushwalkers and home to many rare plant species and a rich diversity of wildlife.

This half-day cultural journey aims to connect you to Country, self and others, to “walk together”. You will be welcomed with a traditional smoking ceremony and learn more about local culture through the sharing of Gurruhmun’s personal story and shared conversations, guided by Indigenous ideas and ways of being.

Visit a traditional birthing hole and learn more about cultural roles and lifestyle. Enjoy a short guided walk to Yellow Pinch Lookout and take in the vistas out to Mt Barney while learning more about the mountain’s history and the species of flora and fauna in the area.

Take a moment for silent reflection in nature following the morning’s learnings and insights into our individual and collective connection to Country.

Tour commences at Mt Barney Lodge. Transfers are not included - groups can arrange a mini-bus transfer with us as a separate booking.

Group bookings only with a minimum of 6 people, and a maximum of 20 people.

We request that video is not used during the tour.

Fitness requirements - we will be undertaking a short bushwalk that is classified as beginner level. A high level of fitness is not required, although you will need to have reasonable mobility and stamina.

Meeting point

Your guide will meet you at Mt Barney Lodge, 1093 Upper Logan Road, Mt Barney, Queensland. Please arrive at least 5 min prior to commencement time.
