Our story
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples have been travelling between each other’s nations for millennia, sharing culture and ceremonies.
Central to travelling to another groups country was being welcomed onto country, giving permission if you like to travel onto that country and to enjoy the country.
There is a long history of visitors coming to Australia from across the seas and of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples engaging and welcoming them to country. Whilst the impact of the British arriving was profound, many Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples continue the tradition of Welcome to Country and participating in cultural tourism by sharing aspects of their culture and selling handicrafts.
Today, there are more than 400 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander businesses actively engaged in the delivery of over 1000 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander experiences.
