Delta Kay

Company: Explore Byron Bay & Vision Walks Eco Tours
Location: North Coast, New South Wales

“This place is very special to me, a place where I feel like I’m truly home. My ancestors have walked this land for thousands of years; our customs, knowledge ceremonies and stories have been handed down for our safe keeping.” Delta’s Dad was one of thirteen children proudly raised by Linda Bray and Jimmy Kay near Tallow Creek, the same place Delta lives today. Delta grew up in nature learning from her Elders, eating native foods and listening to stories and it is from this solid connection to Country and culture that Delta shares her stories and Country with visitors.

Now as an Arakwal Bumberbin Bundjalung Elder herself Delta has become a cultural custodian and it is this knowledge and experience that infuses Delta’s life and tours.  Born out of a desire to make positive, transformational change through story, on her experiences Delta shares the cultural significance and true local history of her Country as you walk together amongst the lush beauty of the Byron region. Each tour has a unique story of Delta’s family connection to this Country, the coastal views are stunning and the excitement when you see our wild dolphins and whales, echidnas or sea eagles cruising overhead. But the most surprising moment for visitors is when Delta reveals the abundance of locally source bushtucker that she gathers for tasting. “The Australian bush is a giant well stocked supermarket if you know what you’re looking for.”
