Ancestors Gift Canoes has come about through the journey of the canoes themselves. Formally known as Black Pearl Canoes these beautiful vessels were originally owned and painted by Torri and Uncle Steven Cora as part of a program with different groups of disadvantaged youth on the Gold Coast. This program worked towards connecting young people who were a step away from juvenile justice centres connect to country, Indigenous culture and to have an opportunity to create something positive in their life with painting the canoes and connecting to the land and water.

In 2020 this program came to a close. Akimera, a community Arts and Development worker came across the canoes for sale and is now the carer of them. Akimera saw the opportunity to join forces with Torri and Uncle Steve as business partners and tour guides and Ancestors Gift Canoes was created.

Akimera, Uncle Steve and Torri have created a great team to offer deep value to the Gold Coast community and its visitors in the most meaningful and enriching ways through the canoe tours on our spectacular waterways.
