Yura Udnyu - Our Culture, Your Culture
Wilpena Pound Resort is located at Wilpena Rd, via Hawker SA 5434
What to expect
“Yura” is the name for Adnyamathanha people and “Udnyu” means white, so this tour includes the intertwining histories of both cultures. This is a fascinating Aboriginal and European cultural experience.
Follow your Yura guide on an entertaining and informative stroll to the Old Wilpena Station, one of South Australia's oldest and best preserved pastoral settlements. This two hour tour meanders along Wilpena Creek past magnificent river red gums and stunning views of picturesque Wilpena Pound in the distance.
Central to the Yura Udnyu tour is the exploration of Yura culture and history and its intersection with white history. During the tour you will learn about the diversity of the land, native animals and bush tucker through the changing seasons. Once at Old Wilpena Station you will discover the history of the station, the Heritage listed site is a valuable archive of pastoral history in the Flinders Ranges. It is the most complete group of early station buildings surviving in South Australia in an authentic pastoral landscape. The site holds a continued cultural significance for the Adnyamathanha people and this dual history creates a fascinating story of this unique place.
