What to expect

“Yura” is the name for Adnyamathanha people and “Udnyu” means white, so this tour includes the intertwining histories of both cultures. This is a fascinating Aboriginal and European cultural experience.

Follow your Yura guide on an entertaining and informative stroll to the Old Wilpena Station, one of South Australia's oldest and best preserved pastoral settlements. This two hour tour meanders along Wilpena Creek past magnificent river red gums and stunning views of picturesque Wilpena Pound in the distance.

Central to the Yura Udnyu tour is the exploration of Yura culture and history and its intersection with white history. During the tour you will learn about the diversity of the land, native animals and bush tucker through the changing seasons. Once at Old Wilpena Station you will discover the history of the station, the Heritage listed site is a valuable archive of pastoral history in the Flinders Ranges. It is the most complete group of early station buildings surviving in South Australia in an authentic pastoral landscape. The site holds a continued cultural significance for the Adnyamathanha people and this dual history creates a fascinating story of this unique place.

What is included

Scheduled Departures:

Departure Times vary throughout the year. During the Summer months (December – February) the Yura Walk commences at 8am when it is cooler. During the cooler months it is on at 10am.

On receiving your booking, the Reservations Team will confirm your booking and advise the departure time. Guests staying at the resort need to inform the Front Office team. Guests not staying at the resort will need to reconfirm 24-hours prior.

Note this tour operates on a minimum of 2 guests

Planning your trip

Walks depart from the Visitor Information Centre, please arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the departure time.

This tour consists of an easy to moderate 2km walk with some uneven ground. The tour is approximately 2 hours in duration.

Water is essential.
