The Wayapa® Wuurrk Aboriginal Perspective and Learning course is a Teacher Professional Learning course that has been developed for NSW primary and high school teachers. It is a 2 hour online professional development course which supports participants in developing a higher level of knowledge, understanding, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and languages and advancing participants' reconciliation with their local communities (RAP).

The Wayapa® Wuurrk Aboriginal Perspective and Learning course allows Teacher Professional Learning participants to engage in Aboriginal perspective and learning through the Practice of Wayapa® Wuurrk.

For non-Indigenous people, Wayapa® will provide an opportunity to be immersed in the culture to understand Connection to Country, Community, and the Aboriginal Ways of Learning. For Indigenous people, Wayapa® provides an easy way to reconnect with or to continue practicing culture while enjoying the holistic health benefits.

Aboriginal education and training is core business for all staff in NSW public schools (DOE). The Wayapa® Wuurrk Aboriginal Perspective and Learning course supports participants in developing a higher level of knowledge, understanding, and respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures, and languages and advancing Participants' reconciliation with their local communities (RAP).

NSW Department of Education: Standard Descriptors addressed (Proficient level):

1.4 - Strategies for teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students;
2.4 - Understand and respect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to promote reconciliation between Indigenous and non-Indigenous Australians.

This is a 2 hour Online Professional Development Course - Teacher Identified.

As an accredited Wayapa Wuurrk Practitioner since 2019, Jaz has experience in delivering Wayapa Wuurrk as Educational Programs, Staff Development Programs, University Programs, NAIDOC Programs, Reconciliation Week Programs, Studio Practice, Online Practice, Private Practice for Aboriginal and Non-Aboriginal participants. 

Wayapa® Wurrk has been featured via NITV, ABC Illawarra and Welcome to Country.

Things to know

The cost per course, per teacher is $369.00

Please note this course requires a minimum of 6 participants to run. There will be a maximum of 10 participants per course.

Scheduled Courses: Parra’Dowee (November - December) 2021

  • 12th November 2021 - Week 6, 9:30 am - 11:30am
  • 3rd December 2021 - Week 9, 9:30 am - 11:30am

This course will continue in 2022, Dates TBC.

Additional face to face courses will also be added once COVID restrictions ease.

The course is open to individual teachers across NSW. We require a minimum of 6 teachers to run the session. If you have a group of 6+ teachers and would like to organise an alternative date please enquire now.
