Aboriginal guides explore Kuku Yalanji country, the only place where two world heritage sites meet, the Daintree Rainforest and the Great Barrier Reef. On this half day tour your guide will share the cultural connection the people have with their land. Learn about the environment, different bush foods and medicines. Sample some seasonal bush tucker while appreciating the history, culture and traditions of our Australian Aboriginal people.

Ngana Julaymba Dungay tours are based around the Mossman, Mossman Gorge, coastal habitats and the Daintree river area. The Half Day tour is available as morning or afternoon option.

Throughout the Daintree Region including Mossman Gorge, Daintree River and the Coastal area.

What to expect

With a pick up from your accommodation spend time in the Daintree with a local Aboriginal tour guide.

Discover the Kuku Yalanji people's environment, and learn the history, culture and traditions of the local Aboriginal people.

On this tour you will walk through the rainforest and coastal habitats, visit a number of culturally significant areas and learn about the amazing relationships the Kuku Yalanji still have with their land.

Learn about different foods and medicines utilised from nature, sample some bush tucker, collect shellfish and try traditional Aboriginal hunting practices.

Have a go at boomerang and spear throwing and if you are lucky, catch a mud crab.

Take a guided rainforest walk through the southern Daintree rainforest and visit the Mossman Gorge.

To complete the adventure cool off in a pristine freshwater stream.

The Ngana Julaymba Dungay experience offers three options to choose from - Half Day Tour (Morning or Afternoon) and Full day tour.

Full Day Tour:
(includes morning/afternoon tea and lunch)
Pick up: 8:00am - 9:00am
Drop off: 4:30pm - 5:30pm

Half Day Tour - Morning:
(includes morning tea)
Pick up for Morning Tour: 8:00am - 9:00am
Drop off for Morning Tour: 12:30pm - 1.00pm

Half Day Tour - Afternoon:
(includes afternoon tea)
Pick up for Afternoon Tour: 12:30pm - 1:30pm
Drop off for Afternoon Tour: 4:30pm - 5.30pm

Our tours:

We offer two key tours - Ngana Julaymba Dungay: We All Going Daintree and Ngana Kulkinga Dungay: We All Going Cape Tribulation. The main difference between the two tour types are the locations visited

  • Ngana Julaymba Dungay
    • explores the region from Daintree Village south, primarily around Mossman, including Mossman Gorge* or a freshwater stream and Cooya Beach or other coastal environment. Tour includes a walk along the coastline with spears and learning the traditional hunting techniques and a rainforest guided walk.
  • Ngana Kulkinga Dungay
    • explores the region further north, crossing the Daintree River by ferry and reaching Cape Tribulation – renowned as “where the rainforest meets the reef”, stopping for guided walks and a swim in a freshwater creek.

*Mossman Gorge will not be visited if closed due to biosecurity restrictions from COVID-19.

Walkabout Cultural Adventures owner, Juan Walker has been guiding in the Port Douglas Daintree region for 19 years. He prides himself on providing top quality service, information and guiding.

His business provides unique cultural tours within Kuku Yalanji country, focusing on Aboriginal culture, significant sites, environmental information and local tourist attractions, whilst being an educational and interpersonal Aboriginal cultural experience.

My country, the Kuku Yalanji country is family, culture and identity. The trees of the rainforest, the rocks of the river beds and the reefs of the sea, were all formed by our Ancestors who continue to live in land, water & sky. It is filled with connections of human, wildlife and plants, all speaking language and following lore. Country is loved and cared for, and country loves and cares for her people in turn.
