With the sun setting, rugged up around the fire on an island in the middle of the Tweed River, step back in time to a conversation that the ancestors started - of connection to self, Country and one another - and dine on native foods cooked in a traditional Aboriginal stone cooking method.

Learn about the 6 seasons of the Aboriginal calendar. This moving, thought-provoking and nourishing experience is to heighten the senses as part of ‘Grandmother time’ and is hosted by Currie Country's Arabella Douglas. With your feet connected to Country and your spirit introduced to ancient systems of life that enrich, lead and embrace, you will be connected to a newfound awe of Country and First Nations people, their knowledge systems and how you can relate and find your place within them.

Join a conversation that the ancestors started, beginning in the stars of the Dark Emu (Milky Way) and the Seven Sisters constellation known as Jiran  (Pleiades star cluster) and learn how these systems affect you as a human, connected to spirit and science.

Dine on native food cooked in traditional Kupimarra (Islander Style) and Aboriginal stone cooking, including salads, traditional curries and a unique dessert. Dinner is based on the 6 seasons of the Aboriginal Calendar- using a selection of Native Foods to highlight your dinner experience. We will serving a variety of flavours from the river, sea and land from Bundjalung Country. We use a variety of seasonal seafood, meats and greens, cooked in traditional flavours and methods, to compliment the story of your dinner.

Dinner will be a 4 course banquet style meal.

   Local Byron Bay Burrata with wild tomato and native herbs
   Olive oils and fresh baked breads
   Local Tweed and Ballina oyster plate served three ways
   Native Teas
   The Main:
   A Taste of the Tweed Seasonal Seafood plate
   A selection of local smoked and cured meats
   Family Curry of forage flavours
   Fresh crispy salad
   A dessert of the day infused with local bush tucker flavours

This private evening of food, education and active conversation aims to be the beginning of a journey that will create a new nation, new community and new ways from the oldest continuous living culture in the world.

Currie Country's Arabella Douglas has featured on SBS and consulted with leading Australian Chefs using native foods in their restaurants. Arabella is an academic, writer and local traditional owner raised on Country and practiced in the lores of her Country.

This is a 3 hour private evening dining experience that requires a minimum booking of 20 people. Dinner usually runs from 4:00 - 7:00pm.
