Experience the natural wonders of the World Heritage listed Purnululu National Park on this full day tour from Broome in the Kimberley region of Western Australia. Soar over the dramatic beehive rocks of the Bungle Bungle range on a scenic flight and enjoy unbeatable aerial views of turquoise waters of Roebuck Bay. Taking in the views as we fly over the mighty Fitzroy River, the Fitzroy Crossing township and the stunning Geikie Gorge. On the ground, hop on-board a 4WD to explore the Dome Walk, Cathedral Gorge and Piccaninny Creek with your local Gija guide. Discover the uses of bush medicine and bush tucker and listen to the ancient songs of the country as you explore the majestic ranges.

This full day tour operates from April to September each year.

What to expect

Departing Broome we track east over the beautiful turquoise waters of Roebuck Bay. Flyover the mighty Fitzroy River, the Fitzroy Crossing township and the stunning Geikie Gorge.

Enjoy morning tea and refreshments at Halls Creek.

Fly over and discover the scenic pattern around the Bungle Bungle Massif, before landing at the remote Bellburn airstrip.On arrival, you will be met by your local Gija tour guide from Kingfisher Tours, Welcomed to Country, enjoy fresh damper, before traveling to the beehives in an air-conditioned 4WD bus with stops along the way for spectacular photo opportunities.

Enjoy a moderate 3km guided walk amongst the famous eroded towers and black and orange banded beehive structures on the domes walk.

Enjoy a local bush tucker loop and a walk into the awe-inspiring Cathedral Gorge and then the Lookout for some of the best views of the park. A light pack is provided with your drinks and lunch to be enjoyed in Cathedral Gorge, whilst your Gija guide sings the ancient songs of her Country.

On your return to the airstrip, there is time for a beer or wine before the scenic flight back to Broome.
Enjoy the scenic return flight to Broome, flying over the spectacular Wunaamin Miliwundi (King Leopold) Ranges, Devonian Reef Conservation Park and Windjana Gorge.

This is a full day tour departing Broome on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays & Sundays

Tours departs at 7:30am and arrives back in Broome by approximately 5:30pm

Planning your trip

  • Ensure to bring along a backpack with your camera, sunglasses and hat.
  • Air Kimberley provides ample water for all guests.
  • A moderate level of fitness and sturdy footwear is required to undertake this hike. There are some areas of uneven ground as well as walking on sand in Cathedral Gorge.
  • Whilst we provide water throughout the tour, we do recommend bringing your own water bottle to ensure you are kept well hydrated in the extreme Kimberley heat.

Walks in the Southern massif (ranges)
Cathedral Gorge Walk: Moderate 3km, 1-2 hour return walk from the Piccaninny Creek car park to a spectacular gorge. Mostly easy with some short difficult sections.

Piccaninny Creek Lookout: You can walk to this lookout which is 2.8km return from the Piccaninny Creek car park to gain great views of the Bungle Bungle Range outliers as the Piccaninny Creek winds its way down to the Ord River.
The Domes Walk: 1km, 1 hour circuit walk among the famous ‘beehive’ domes of Purnululu National Park.

Adverse weather conditions may mean that the scheduled itinerary cannot proceed as intended. If adverse weather means that you are unable to complete the full tour, then any refund will be adjusted on a pro rata basis depending on the flying time involved.

Experienced pilots are additionally trained as tour guides and provide a comprehensive and informative insight into the stunning Kimberley landscape. Each passenger has a window seat and a personal headset to listen to the pilot’s commentary. Pilots circle landmarks of interest throughout the tours to ensure maximum photo opportunities!
